Ugliest Birthday Cake Ever

As promised here is the cake I made with love for Grant...and his cousin Kate's birthday this past Monday. It was red velvet with vanilla icing...and get this....Swedish fish for accent. Yes I thought fish would be a theme Grant would enjoy...and my love of the chewy things had nothing to do with it (by the way...Swedish fish with icing is WAY good). If I was an overachiever type...I would have loved to make him a drum cake......but obviously I am NOT.

Living Will

Last night, my wife and I were sitting in the living room and I said to her,

"I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependant on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug."

She got up, unplugged the TV and then threw out my beer.

Bitch...

Redneck Weddings

A camouflage theme for a wedding? I guess its just another day in redneck wedding paradise.

Last night during my 15 minutes of TV time I happened to stumble upon this jewel. My hand was paralyzed as I witness the atrocities of a redneck wedding. Call me innocent...but I really had no idea these things happened! I mean I have some serious country roots and relatives...and have indeed been to a barn wedding...but these weddings are truly....well truly...whacked out.

I'm sure it has something to do with me NOT being a redneck...otherwise I would be inspired and excited. However that is not the case and instead I have visions of a bride chasing a greased pig and mudding in her 4 wheel drive and it almost disgusts me. I had no idea how uppity I am! Ok so it doesn't disgust me...but it is slightly disturbing in an intriguing way. Hell..its worth a looksie...a whole new world of redneck I didn't even know existed! In fact..I'm sure I will be back for more. Strange how that works isn't it?

I Mugged a Snowman and I am Proud of it!

ITs true. This is NOT an April FOOls joke...no ...nu uh....its the cold truth.

We were strolling an outside mall....and there he was....all bent outta shape and sad. The snowman had obviously seen better temps, but by now he was just a few lumps on the boardwalk. A scarf, sun glasses and mittens laid about soggy and forelorn. My husband whispers in my ear, hey, do you like those glasses? Oh he sure knows how to sweet talk me.

So we stepped in for a closer look. Um ya I actually do like the glasses, and knowing how FAST I cruise through them (lost, broken etc), a free pair sounded pretty sweet. So I glanced about with jittery eyes and swooped them up in one graceful lunge. THEN THEY WERE MINE.

I wish I had taken a picture of that sweet old snowman....but the thrill of the act had me moving fast and thinking slow. The fact that I mugged a snow man...is just another experience I can chalk up to being a serendipitous thrill seeker hehe.

Personal Jokes

One of my favorite things to share with grant is our personal jokes. When I find something that he thinks is hysterical...and then we just take turns laughing back and forth. To see him in a hard core belly laugh just lights up my world. He really loves to watch me laugh too.

ITs friday its friday. Im doing the friday dance. I still think a standard work week should only be 4 days long with a sweet 3 days weekend. That would be much more balanced.

Grant is trying to say DOG! That would basically be his first word..besides mama and dada. He is really into the old girls.

I watched Marie Antoinette last night...and this morning...and I REALLY enjoyed it. I would have to say its the perfect Paula movie. Only a split second of violence (and even it was only the aftermath), lots of gorgeous landscape and beauty along with opulent partying. I admit the film lacked on plot but thats exactly how i like them. I know im wierd. I just dont like for my movies to stress me out. I want to have fun. The ending was lack luster....but thats ok. I just keep thinking to myself...why didnt they just give the peasants some flour? What bastards.

Grandma Burkemper, Auntie Mary Rita and little Mary should be on their way. We are going to spend a warm and rainy weekend together. They should really get a kick outta little grant. He is such a character.

Happy weekend to ya! May you see many rainbows.

sleeping arrangements

so this is our life - refer to cartoon...it made me laugh outloud for a long while. feels good to be understood! that is SOOO me in the morning...and SOOO dave in the morning. its hilarious.

co sleeping is amazing, precious, special, delightful, challenging, painful, insane hehehe....but really...i do believe it fulfills a purpose and does create memorable moments of bliss...when you look down and see the moonlight (or nightlite hehe) dancing off your child's profile as they breathe deeply in peaceful, contentment or when he reaches out just to feel that im there and then nods right off. to feel his little feet on my tummy where he likes to keep them....to feel his warm, milky breath on my chest.. and to see his big wide eyes in the morning right after he pats me awake. these truly are the memories i cherish.
