Beautiful Eggs

I find the homogenous white eggs at the grocery store a bit creepy. Not only are the poor mothers of those eggs Sad, miserable and pumped with antibiotics and hormones..the eggs themselves are less than delicious.

Here are some beautful eggs....each unique in size, shape and color. Some have a little hey sticking to them. Most importantly....their chicken mamas are happy little birds...scouring the yard for insects and having the life a chicken deserves. These eggs are SO delicious too....its like happiness adds flavor. Doesnt hurt that they have no antibiotics or hormones added...so the health of the egg is passed on to my family. AHHHHHH.

I always seek out farm eggs wherever I roam. These gorgeous specimens are delivered weekly at the affordable and luxurious price of get this.....$1.50/dozen!!!!! Could we be any luckier? The nice lady has 20 chickens and just allows us to enjoy her bounty. I encourage you to ask around and find such a chicken lady of your own. You will be SO glad you did.

I am START!ing - How about you?

Start!is an American Heart Association movement to promote physical activity through workplace walking programs. It calls on employers of all sizes to "create a culture of physical activity" to improve health...which is a win win for employees and the bottom line.

Many company's are offering their own incentive programs that compliments Start!
For instance one agency I know rewards walkers with time off from work for every 30hours of activity! Isnt that awesome? There are lots of ways to have fun with this program. Sometimes they will create friendly competitions...like between departments or floors...with the "winner" having documented the most active hours (at work). There are also agencies that offer a half hour for walking during the work day (beyond the lunch hour)! I think this is incredible.

So check it out and encourage your employer to adopt the program. The American Heart Association offers lots of program resource material to make participation easy and fun. Couldn't you use an extra push in the right direction?

My personal commitment is a new lunch routine. Starting tomorrow (February 1) the plan is to walk 1/2 hour Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the gym (on bad weather days - walk at the park when it is pretty) and spend the other 1/2 hour with Grant at day care (to accomplish this all in 1 hour...I will change clothes at work and probably be taking more like 1 hour and 10 minute lunches until I get heckeled). On Tuesdays, and Thursdays I will spend the entire lunch hour with Grant and work out in the evening during my Women's Weight Loss Bootcamp here in town. I also intend to prepare rockn salads to bring for lunch. Im not talking rabbit food...I want beautiful artful salads with delicious fresh toppings and crumble cheese hehe. That way I wont feel cheated. So thats my physical activity and nutrition plan. Ready set......GOOOOOOO.

I challenge you to boost your physical activity...for yourself and your family.

I promise to start eating healthy

My goal for the immediate future is to start making changes that improve my overall health. Number one on the agenda....make it a priority to eat home cooked, healthy meals on a more regular basis. To implement this strategy...and why I am not doing it presently...is because that requires preparation, motivation and time. To change the course of my thickening arteries and buldging mid section...i have to make the time to research and plan meals...then do as much prep work ahead of time (preferrably on the weekends).

Im actually excited about the change! My son deserves home cooked delicious and healthy meals and healthy parents who are good role models. I was even a vegan for a short while back in the day..and hardly ate meat my entire 20s....however the 30s i let it all hang out and just went down down down hill...to where now I am eating twinkies and frozen breastfast sandwiches. UGH.

To start over...i must make my way inch by inch instead of being overwhelmed and giving up before i even start. SO - with the help of a great website The Worlds Healthiest Foods, I am going to start my grocery list for this weekend. Im sure that some of you can relate (whether you are out of the closet or not is another thing)and hopefully by publishing my journey you can be inspired to come along with me. Another blog will soon be established to specifically chronical my jump into mature eating. For now...I will down this last tater tot with plans for fresh apples and raisens next week :)
