One Love

I finally finished reading "Tuesdays with Morrie" last night. It was my bathroom book...and I read it literally one page at a time for the most part. I wish I knew when I started...it was this year ...but pretty early on. Mind you...my bathroom time is rarely spent alone so that also cuts into my reading time.

What a wonderful story. A dying man's discussions with his young student and friend. Very poignant stuff. I wanted to share one of his analogies with you. Its about our interconnectedness and the cycle of life. I meant to bring the book with me this morning..but left it at home. So I googled it, and ended up finding a wonderful well written post on the topic. I have copied a bit of it here for you.

"Humans often teach and preach about the problems that exist in the world and rarely reflect on the pain they feel. We compete against each other; thus creating greater strife. We battle the little boy or girl within. We are never good enough, strong enough, pretty enough, or truly lovable.

As a culture, we create awards for every accomplishment. We acknowledge what is done. The millenniums feel lonely; yet, in school, at home, on the playground parents made sure they were never alone. The boomers think themselves isolated. Mommy and Daddy spent more money, than "quality" time with them. I trust the "silent generation" thought they suffered. The X and Ys also could complain and did.

Humans, I believe are here to learn. The lesson most vital is the one most of us miss. Who are we; why are we here may be essential questions. However, I think these may torment us. Perhaps, if we accept that nothing is more significant than the relationship we have with every other entity, inclusive of ourselves, we could feel more connected and still singularly unique.

Sadly, humans tend to see them selves as separate or an integral part of a group. The world is black or white. I am a winner or a loser. People struggle to realize they are whole, and intertwined. They are not solitary souls or an assemblage. I offer the wisdom of the Wave Story." Betsy Angert

"I heard a nice little story the other day," Morrie says. He closes his eyes for a moment and I wait.
"Okay. The story is about a little wave, bobbing along in the ocean, having a grand old time. He's enjoying the wind and the fresh air -- until he notices the other waves in front of him, crashing against the shore. "
" 'My God, this is terrible,' the wave says 'Look what's going to happen to me!' "
"Then along comes another wave. It sees the first wave, looking grim, and it says to him, 'Why do you look so sad?' "
"The first wave says, 'You don't understand! We're all going to crash! All of us waves are going to be nothing! Isn't it terrible?' "
"The second wave says, 'No, you don't understand. You're not a wave, you're part of the ocean.' "
I smile. Morrie closes his eyes again.
"Part of the ocean," he says. "Part of the ocean." I watch him breathe, in and out, in and out.

Woman: at the heal of man

While watching an episode of "Trading Spouses" or something like that, we witnessed a very religious lady crying bc she wanted to perform her "wifely duties" but the mean old "new husband" wouldnt let her. She tearfully waned that woman's place was at the heel of man. WHOA....that really slapped me in the face...took my breath away.
I disagree.

Anyhoo....
My Dh (handsome fella in the pic) aptly noted last evening...as I was indulging him in a foot massage...that woman is "at the heal of man". ...meaning we heal them and of course they can heal us back. Love can do that. Love does that. I though this was a very beautiful perspective. Way to turn a lemon into lemonade.

flash back

i remember when dave (DH) climbed the tree out in front of my mothers house in 1993. She couldnt stand it and complained to me (mind you he was 23 years old and a bit spirited for climbing the tree). i would know him another 10 years before we started falling in love. now thank god she loves him to pieces.he sure has changed...we both have!!!!!!its wild how things change. i changed dramatically from my 20s to my 30s. we are always growing and developing.

busy busy

Saturday we busted our butts....between cleaning the house, grocery shopping & dave working 3 shifts of 3 hours each..it was a full day. Sunday we celebrated good ole daddy with a big late breakfast, a professional foot massage, swimming at the lawrence pool, a fabulous lunch at zen zero and an impromptu shoe shopping event for the main man. daddy then umped the first ever coed kickball league here in tongie. it was a fun yet busy weekend...all too soon over with. most.

grant is still going in the potty first thing in the morning..other than that interest is limited. we are still celebrating though! grant talked for 10 mintues yes 10 minutes to his grandma bb on the phone yesterday..it was hilarious. he usually talks a bit...but he was really on a role im telling you what! we had to hang up before he was done. unfortunately he is really into holding the phone himself now...first time mommy mistake..but oh well....he loves it!

gotta keep this short cause im a working...but wanted to post the pics!

hello...anyone out there?

so i really just wonder if anyone but sarah and amy read this thing. sooooooooo if you woudl please indulge me....leave a comment...even just your name...so i know you are reading this. i may need to send out another recruitment blast to lure innocent folks to this site. i just think its nice...especially since we live out here in the boonies....to have grant updates so he isnt just a figment of your imagination...and more like a real growing baby.

dave and i are making progress!!!! he wrote down the first phase of his requests! and you know it is already helping. i told him how excited i was to be truly communicating without all the drama of emotion and tone...and we are planning to continue a written dialogue! yae.

have you heard of flat daddies? dads who over seas in iraq....can have their life size images sent to their kids...and family...and that way the babes still recognize daddy on his return. at first i thought it was strange...strange but cool...and now im totally into it. infact...made me think of my own brand of flat grandmas! why not? have their life size faces in the house so he will quickly recognize them during a brief visit. he already knows my moms voice from the speaker phone..which has helped. this could really work.

grant and i are going to the chiropractor today...ive been putting it off for over a month now..the trip is just a lot of work..at least im not doing it BEFORE work..instead im taking off work to go..much better! so hopefully he can work out our kinks..man i need some help. and grants allergies are on overdrive right now...it would be nice for him to get some relief too. fingers crossed.

btw....grant is officially into everything! he is just all over the place...grabbing, reaching, crawling, scooching, rolling, pulling up, standing, walking....ahhhhhhhhhh....so now the challenge has increased and how has it! he also fights for his right to party...by screaming and crying for a bit. limits are being set...and i realize that i need to stay consistent, calm and loving through it all..which has been going well so far. such as...grant...sit in the tub...no standing...sorry....grant....may i have that? thank you...........grant....i cant continue to walk you around the house bc my back is going to give out...sorry. etc etc. he is something else! wow.

ok back to work. but please let me know if youve been here. THANKS!!!
